Kathy Mao

Kathy Mao is a senior wireless systems expert and strategic technologist operating at the intersection of advanced research, standardization, and real-world system design. With over 15 years of end-to-end experience across 4G LTE, 5G NR, and emerging 6G systems, she has consistently shaped the technical foundations and strategic direction of next-generation connectivity.

Her work spans the full stack of baseband systems, from information-theoretic modeling and large-scale simulation to product-grade algorithm design and global standardization. A recognized contributor within 3GPP RAN1, she has driven standard-essential innovations in MIMO, channel modeling, and PHY/MAC evolution, with multiple patents embedded in 5G specifications.

Kathy combines deep technical rigor with rare system-level judgment. She has led large-scale cross-functional engineering efforts, including coordinating ~120 engineers across business units, and has advised telecom operators on network evolution, AI-driven optimization, and long-term technology strategy. Her perspective is grounded not only in theoretical excellence but in a precise understanding of real-world constraints, performance limits, and failure modes.

Currently, she operates as Founder and CEO of CASHCASHSTUDIO, an AI-augmented advisory practice focused on high-leverage system diagnosis and strategic realignment. Her work challenges assumptions, tests feasibility against reality, and redirects complex technology programs toward achievable, high-impact outcomes.

She holds a PhD in Communication and Information Systems, with a strong foundation in information theory.
